 Brazil Adoption Program 
THIS PROGRAM IS ON HOLD.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Persons over the age of 21 may adopt, regardless of marital status;
  • The adopting party must be at least 16 years older than the potential adoptee;
  • A child can only be legally adopted if under age 16, or under 18 if they have a sibling under 16 who is also being adopted by the same person(s).

TIME FRAME:

  • The average time to complete an intercountry adoption case varies from three months to one year.

THE CHILDREN:

  • Children as young as 10 months old are available for adoption.

BRAZILIAN DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS:

Any foreign couple or person adoption a Brazilian child must have an authorization from the State Judiciary Commission on Adoption (CEJA). According to CEJA statutes petitioners must provide at a minimum the following:

  1. A Homestudy including:
    1. Psychological evaluation,
    2. Medical report of prospective parents saying they are in good health and mentally and physically capable to adopt,
    3. Certificate of Residence - this would include proof of home ownership or an affidavit from landlord as to your apartment and lease including pictures from the house (inside and outside),
    4. Pictures of family and grandparents (if possible).
  1. ?I-171H' form, Notice of Approval of I-600a petition;
  2. Copy of Petitioner's U.S. passport(s), photo and signature page;
  3. Police records, valid for one year;
  4. Last Federal Income Tax return;
  5. Marriage certificate (if applicable);
  6. Birth certificate (if not married);
  7. Divorce Decree (if applicable);
  8. Current state law on adoptions including statement saying the law is still in effect (generally obtained at a state Court House, from a Senator's office or a reputable lawyer);
  9. Handwritten signed statement from the petitioner saying he is aware that adoption in Brazil is free and irrevocable;
  10. Statement that petitioner is aware that he must not establish any contact in Brazil with possible adoptive children's parents nor any person who has the child's guardianship before the authorization from CEJA is issued.
